The Shelby County Road Department is
comprised of 16 staff positions. The staffing consists of a
Road Supervisor, a Road Foreman, a mechanic, 12 Road Workers and an
administrative assistant.
Geographically, Shelby County
encompasses an area of approximately 363 square miles. The
development in the County is primarily rural in character with areas
concentrated development. Within the boundaries of the County,
there are approximately 284 road miles that the Shelby County Road
Department has maintenance responsibilities for.
Our crews are responsible for the
following maintenance issues: grading, roadside mowing,
drainage structures, pothole repair and snow/ice removal.
Our County roads require periodic
grading and resurfacing. Snow/ice removal operations are
handled by our crews also. Along with snow/ice removal
operations lasting as long as necessary, it begins with the priority
one roads, the high volume traffic roads, then filters down to
priority two and local roads.
Road Closing
Burks Branch Road
Roadway will be closed to through traffic between Magnolia Place and
Fox Run Road beginning April 14, 2008 and continuing through
August 2008 due to construction for the Shelbyville Bypass.
Access will be allowed for local traffic only.
